PowerLogs is designed to work with as little personal information as possible.

Who we are

PowerLogs is run by Nathan, who is responsible for the personal information described here (the data controller). For anything about your data, email [email protected].

Checking a postcode

You don’t need an account. The postcode you enter is sent to postcodes.io, a free postcode lookup service, to find its location, and is used to show the power cuts recorded for it. We don’t store your searches or link them to you.

Email alerts

If you sign up for alerts we store your email address, the one postcode you chose, when you signed up and when you confirmed. We use them only to send the alerts you asked for. Alerts start only after you confirm by pressing a button on our website, and we rely on that consent to send them. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.

Claim emails

A name and address you type into a claim email stay in your browser. They are never sent to PowerLogs, saved or included in any analytics. You send the email yourself, from your own email account.

Emailing us

If you email us, we use your message and email address to reply, which is in our legitimate interest and yours. We keep messages only as long as we need to deal with them.

Running the website

Our server records which pages are requested, without IP addresses, to keep the site working. These records are overwritten after a short time. Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site, handles your IP address to do so. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views; it does not use cookies and does not track you across websites. PowerLogs sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.

Whether you may qualify for compensation is worked out automatically from the power cuts we have recorded, but it decides nothing: your network operator decides any payment.

Who handles your information for us

These companies process personal information on our behalf, only to provide their service:

Some of these companies are based in the United States or may store information outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected under UK data protection law, for example by the UK–US data bridge or the standard contract terms approved for international transfers.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, ask us to limit or stop using it, and ask for a copy to take elsewhere. To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
